F8 Developer Conference Wrap-Up

Facebook held their 10 year anniversary of the F8 Developer Conference; a gathering of developers from around the world to learn about the new products and updates happening on Facebook. F8 Developer Conference was centered around one theme: Augmented Reality. Creating a community through Augmented/Virtual Reality. Here are the top highlights from the F8 Developer Conference:

  • Mark Zuckerburg addressed the tragedy of the Cleveland serial killer, who used Facebook livestream to publicly murder an innocent elderly man. Mark strives to make Facebook a safe platform, as well as strengthen security.
  • Facebook is rolling out products concentrated on Augmented Reality: realistic 3D objects, Augmented Reality gaming, and camera effects
  • Frame Studio: An artist's tool for 3D art and camera effects
  • AR Studio: A developer's tool for seamless 3D mask effects (seen on snapchat and FB stories)
  • Social VR: Facebook virtual reality community space

A little bit more on Social VR, because this is a huge development during the F8 Conference. Social VR is a virtual reality based space where you can hang out with friends and family, add 3D objects and atmospheres, and interact with your environment using a VR device. Social VR uses SLAM (Simultaneous Localization And Mapping) to map your location, as well as reading your map location to create an interactive simulation of your space for you and your community. The main purpose of Social VR is bringing people together with the power of virtual reality.

Yup....... Just like Sword Art Online, minus the trap of turning a virtual world into reality (hopefully).

NES Classic Mini Canceled

Sad yet true.... Nintendo canceled the production of the classic NES (Nintendo Entertainment Systen) Mini console. A Nintendo Spokesperson told Eurogamer.net, "We can confirm that we are no longer manufacturing the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System. If production resumes in the future, an update will be posted on the official Nintendo website.

NES Classic Mini consists of 30 Nintendo classic games in an original bite size version of the NES console for $59.99. There is speculation that the cancellation of the NES Classic Mini are due to scalping, hackers, or just meant for a limited time. Again, just speculation. But, if you have $300 or more to spare, the NES Classic Mini is available to purchase from re-sellers on  Amazon and eBay.

I'm so sad that I missed my chance to purchase the NES Classic Mini. When I was a kid, my dad bought the original NES console for bringing home good grades from school. I was absolutely addicted to Super Mario Bros (mainly, it was the only game my dad bought with the console). I wanted to share my gaming traditions with my daughter.

Hopefully, or at least wishful thinking, the Classic NES Mini will come back in time when my daughter brings home good grades from school. If not, then we will still carry on our gamer traditions; or at least create a new one.

Raise Your Middle Finger To "Fitting In"

Listening to Jill Kargman's episode on Refinery29 Unstyled Podcast about saying fuck it to "fitting in" set me back to a time where I tried to fit in, then just said "screw fitting in". I was so moved and inspired by this episode, that it reminded me why I became a lifestyle blogger aka BeautyLifeGeek.

Back in middle school, I've always wanted to fit in; a fresh new start from being bullied in elementary school. But, that was not the case. Sadly, the trend of "pick on Krystal" followed me throughout middle school. I was shy, quiet, always kept to myself, and stayed out of sight to avoid conflict. I was the only girl.....ever...... who enjoys spending time staying home, read comic books, watch anime and wrestling, and play video games; you know.... "boy stuff". But, my interests did not avoid the bullying radar. After middle school, the same cycle started again in high school; need to fit in= 4 years of being bullied.

During my college years, not only did the bullying stopped, but my need to feel accepted by others as well. It's time to stop and say SCREW IT! I am going to live my life as being myself. I am going to live my life loving writing, anime, wrestling, video games, and literature. I am going to create content that I enjoy making, share information that I love, and block out any negativity that comes my way.

That is how BeautyLifeGeek was born; a platform to be both beautiful and geeky. A voice to share things that I love in both the beauty and geek atmosphere. A place to be ME. This is my way of raising my middle finger to "Fitting In".

So, I want you to raise your middle finger to fitting in. Break out of the mold of someone you think you need to be, and start living as the person that you truly are. Be happy, sad, angry, in love, geek, freak, nerd, punk, fashionista, beauty enthusiast, anime lover; raise your voice and say "I AM GOING TO LIVE MY LIFE FOR ME! DEAL WITH IT!".
